Moped Class II

A motor vehicle is classified as a moped class II if:

  • it has a speed of no more than 25 km/h
  • its motor power does not exceed 1 kilowatt.

Several Minimotors electric scooters can be registered as Moped Class II (see below). These do not need to be registered. Therefore, you do not need to obtain a registration plate for such an electric scooter. You also do not need to worry about inspection or vehicle tax.

No Driver's License *

If you turned 15 years old before October 1, 2009, you do not need a driver's license.Otherwise, a driver's license is required. See more info at the Transport Agency:

Is my electric scooter from Minimotors going too fast?

Many of our electric scooters have the option for a higher speed. For example, the Dualtron Popular Dual Motor has a speed of up to 70 km/h. Why can it then be classified as a moped class II?

This is because you, as a customer, have the option to choose a speed limit on relevant products. This means you can restrict the speed on certain electric scooters so that they do not go too fast.

The electric scooters mentioned above are all eligible to be classified as moped class II. They all have a motor power under 1 kW and their speed can be restricted to 25 km/h.

What does this mean for you?

If you want to use your electric scooter from Minimotors as a moped class II in Sweden, you should restrict the speed to 25 km/h. You should also obtain a traffic insurance for it.

If you are considering buying an electric scooter from Minimotors, you can choose the option “25 km/h (Moped Class 2)” under “Speed Limit” at the time of purchase. Checklist:

  • A helmet is required. The fine usually amounts to around 1500 SEK.
  • You are not allowed to carry anyone on your electric scooter.
  • You are not allowed to ride on sidewalks or pavements.
  • You are not allowed to park on sidewalks, bike paths, or pavements.
